How it works
-
One server per group
Someone in the group deploys the server, a small program on Cloudflare's free plan, and sends invite links to the others.
-
Names on your phone
Each person opens their invite link on their phone and picks the name the boards will show. No email, no password. The phone you join on is the one that pairs your devices.
-
Pair each device
The game shows a QR code; scan it with that phone and confirm. Pair your PC and your Deck to the same name and they share everything.
Set up a server for your group
This takes about five minutes, once, for the whole group. You need a free Cloudflare account and a GitHub account.
-
Click Deploy to Cloudflare. Cloudflare copies the server's code to your GitHub account, creates its database and puts it online.
-
When it asks, set two values:
- ADMIN_SECRET the password for your server's admin page. Pick a long one and keep it somewhere safe.
- GROUP_NAME your group's name, shown in the game and on the server's pages.
-
When the deploy is done, Cloudflare shows your server's address, something like
https://geow2-scores.your-name.workers.dev. Open that address followed by/adminand sign in with the admin secret. -
Make an invite link and send it to your friends. Join your own group too: the admin page shows the new link as a QR code, so scan it with your phone.

Join and pair your devices
Open the invite link you were sent on your phone, and choose your name. The browser you join in is the one that pairs your devices, and with a phone each pairing is a single scan. (If the link opens on a computer, the invite page shows a QR code to carry it over to your phone. Joined on a computer already? Your page there has Show a code for my phone, which signs your phone in too.)
In geow2, open Help and options, then Online scores. Choose the server line and enter the address you were given. On a Steam Deck, STEAM + X shows the keyboard.
Choose Pair this device. Scan the QR code with your phone and confirm. (Or, in the browser you joined in, open your page on the server and type the code.) The game picks it up within seconds.
Do the same on every device you play on.
From then on the game syncs by itself: when it starts, after each game and every few minutes in the menus. In the leaderboards, X switches between Friends (the group), My score (the group, at your row) and Overall (your own best games). Your name replaces "Player 1".
From a terminal: geow2 --online-pair <server address> pairs a device
(it prints the code to confirm), and geow2 --online-sync syncs.
What the server keeps
- players the name each person chose
- devices the name the game gives each one
- games mode, score, multiplier and date of each finished game
- progress unlocked modes, unlock progress, achievements
No email addresses, no passwords, nothing from the game itself. Device and phone tokens are stored only as hashes. The admin can rename or remove players, unpair devices and delete scores.
Scores are trusted as they come from the game: it's for friends, not a public leaderboard.
Without a server
To combine two devices once, copy one device's profile folder to the other and
run geow2 --merge-profile <that folder>. Its games, unlocked modes and achievements are
added; merging the same folder again changes nothing. The profile folders are listed in the
README.
